Tiny Dancer

Mia is getting to the age where she is becoming more aware (jealous) of extra activities that Avery gets to do.  We've always reminded her that she gets to ride horses every week, but she is starting to realize that it is therapy, and not an extra activity.  Since most sports would be too difficult for Mia, we were on the search for something else.  We found a local dance studio that offered a special needs dance class.  The owner's daughter, in fact, uses a walker like Mia used to, and wears braces and glasses like Mia.  We were a bit disappointed when we found out that the special needs class was canceled because Mia was the only one registered.  The teacher convinced us she would do fine in a regular class, since she has no cognitive delays and so we decided to give it a try.  I am so glad we followed her advice because it was perfect for Mia.  Her first class was last week and she truly enjoyed it, although she was frustrated she had to wear her braces when "no one else was."   I had arranged with the teacher that Mia would just wear her braces and gym shoes, rather than ballet and tap shoes.  This was fine with both me and the teacher, but not so much with Mia.  She was so upset about not having the shoes, another girl let her borrow some.  And so, I will be going on a hunt before the next class for shoes.  Lesson learned.  All in all, she did a wonderful job and the teacher was great!
