Spring Break Stay-cation

This week has been spring break for both Avery and Mia.  It has been so nice to not be running them around to preschool.  I think we have all enjoyed not rushing around in the morning.  However, I did want to keep the girls entertained during this week, so we have spent the week doing things close to home.

On Monday, our adventure was the grocery and the library.  I usually do not take the girls to the grocery because it is just too hard to coupon shop and concentrate on the best deal with two girls begging for fruit snacks and one crying.  But they love to go.  I think it may have something to do with the free cookie they get at the bakery.  Anyway, I didn't have much to get, so I decided to put on my big girl pants and brave the storm.  Things were fine until check-out when I got the world's slowest cashier, Livie started to fuss and Mia broke her beaded necklace and beads scattered all over the floor.  Sigh.  I tried.  The library was much better.  I love how excited the girls get to pick out their books.  Avery is all about chapter books and picked out several of them.  Her favorites are Junie B. Jones and The Saddle Club books, which lucky for us, also has a TV show.  Mia wants to be just like sissy, of course, so we found some Bernstein Bears chapter books for her.  They truly love reading before nap time and bed time.  I hope that they continue to go on many adventures in books.

On Tuesday we met Chris for lunch at Steak N Shake.  The girls looooove that place, and now that Livie is old enough to sit in a high chair, that makes going out to eat a lot easier.  It may seem like a simple outing but we do not go out to lunch very often so this was a big treat for everyone - lunch out and milkshakes all in the same day!

On Wednesday we headed to the zoo with some wonderful friends.  I have befriended one of Avery's friends' mom and we have had a wonderful time hanging out and getting to know each other.  Of course Avery loves this because she can hang out with her friend Olivia.  Mia loves it because she can hang out with Emily (Olivia's younger sister) and both Betsy and I have infants in tow as well.  We are quite the rowdy group, but it is wonderful to be with someone who understands my everyday chaos because she is living it as well.  We had beautiful weather for the zoo and ended up staying the entire day.  It was the highlight of our week, that is for sure.  Betsy also bought a membership, so now we have zoo buddies for the summer as well.

On Thursday we had to go to hippotherapy for Mia, but to make it more fun we stopped at Dunkin' Donuts on the way there.  Nothing says fun like a donut in the car.  They were high on sugar for a good hour.  We also made Easter cut-out cookies and colored our Easter eggs in the evening.  When I asked Mia why we celebrate Easter she responded "Jesus was born on the cross."  Probably better review the Easter story again.

And today I took the girls to get their hair cut.  Yes, again, this may sound boring to most but my girls think this is really fun.  I am trying to take advantage of their age where things like this are still quite exciting.  Later this afternoon, Avery and Mia are heading to my parents for a sleepover.  They are to tickled and have had their bags packed since this morning.

And so, Spring Break comes to a close and it makes me long for summer.  Free from drop-off car lines and rushing out the house.  I am anxious for the carefree days of summer... sigh.   Now if only the weather would cooperate.
