Motherly Connection

Today I had a wonderful visit with Olivia.  My mom took me, along with the girls, down to see her after lunch.  She had both of her hands by her face and the girls were very anxious to touch her.  They love it when she will hold their fingers, but sometimes they are a little aggressive in forcing her to do it.  It is a little stressful trying to keep their excitement from hurting Olivia.  Anyway, the visit had been quite stressful trying to control them from touching her too much and from being too loud.  Finally we were getting ready to leave and the nurse came in to see if I wanted to change her diaper.  Of course I jumped at the chance and I was able to not only change her but also wipe off her face for her.  Then the nurse took her bilirubin goggles off and we were able to see her whole face.  It was so wonderful and she even gave us a little smile.  It warmed my heart.  She then opened her eyes!  She kept her eyes open for a long time, just watching all of us.  It was amazing to watch her little expressions.  Mom took the girls out of the room so I could have some alone time with her.  She just watched me and seemed to respond to my voice.  Her stats went up and she just stared at me as I talked to her and touched her little hands.  It was the first moment of connection for us as mother and daughter and it was so amazing.  She was adorable.  Here are some pictures from today.

Olivia's little hands.

Good morning, Bright Eyes!

Can you see the little smile on her face?

Her phnumothorax looked better today as well, so hopefully we are on the road to recovery with this lung problem.  She was also able to go down on her oxygen level again, so she is only at 23% oxygen now.  Yeah!  She also had her first round of food today through her feeding tube.  She seemed to tolerate it well, so hopefully she can continue taking her nutrition this way, rather than through her IV.  Today was a great day for little Livie!
