More Magnesium
Yesterday I enjoyed a wonderful visit with the girls. My mom brought them to visit me after Avery's preschool Promotion Picnic. They brought ice cream to share and I used my wheel chair time so that we could all sit in the waiting area rather than staying in the room. It worked out so nice because the girls could run around a lot more, plus there were kids books and toys out there. Avery was quite excited because she pushed me in my wheel chair while my mom pushed my IV tower. I think it made her feel quite important because she seemed really excited about it. Mia enjoy the ride on my lap. Sometimes visits from the girls can be a little stressful because they get so bored in the room so fast, so it was nice to have a visit with them where they weren't bored and I had the opportunity to talk wit them, share ice cream and read a few books.
The rest of the afternoon, I started to feel a little weird. I just thought I was feeling groggy so I turned on a movie to watch. The nurse came in for a check and asked me how I was feeling. I admitted I felt weird. I had been having contractions 5 minutes apart for about an hour, some of them substantial. They called the doctor right away. They decided to give me another bolus (large dose) of the magnesium and then increase the ongoing level I get through the IV. This increase also increases side effects. I feel pretty crummy with the large initial dose, but we were able to stop the contractions.

Anytime they increase the magnesium, they have to check my vitals quite a bit until I stabilize. I did stabilize a lot faster this time. I had a severe headache for a few hours and then started to feel better. The nurse did her last check before I went to bed and said she would be back early in the morning. Around 4 a.m. I woke up for my vitals check and I noticed my entire back and butt were soaked. I immediately freaked out thinking my water broke. I sat up and then we realized that one of my IV cords had become detached and my magnesium had been spilling all over me rather than going into my blood stream. Luckily we caught it before my contractions came back full force. Needless to say, it was a restless night. The increase in magnesium seems to be working at keeping the contractions at bay, so that is good.
Yesterday I celebrated my third week on bed rest, my one week on hospital bed rest and today we celebrate 26 weeks gestation of baby Olivia. Each day is a gift from God to our sweet little Olivia.

Cheryl,
Thank you so much for taking the time to send updates. I appreciate having things to focus on during prayer! I am thankful you can find blessings to consider - it would be very easy to get depressed during all this. Hang in there - no, I guess I should say lay in there! Every single day is a help to Olivia, and you are a wonderful mom to do everything you can to give her more time! We love you both, and remember you in our prayers.
