Announcing My Retirement
Yep, at the age of 28, I am officially retiring from baby-making (after this one of course). Let me explain...
I went to the doctor on Thursday for a routine check of my cervix. It looked great at first but then I felt this pressure. I saw the look on the ultrasound techs face. She said "Did you feel that?" Yes, I did. She went and got the doctor and hooked me up to monitors. I was having contractions about 3-4 minutes apart. Not good at 23 weeks. I was put in the hospital and given some drugs to stop the contractions. Thankfully, they stopped. I was put on two additional medications, one to relax the uterus to help prevent future contractions, and a weekly shot of progesterone that has been known to help women prone to pre-term labor. I was released this morning but put on bed rest for the duration of the pregnancy. They may start giving the baby steroids soon if they feel the possibility of a pre-term birth is still high to help develop the lungs.
Most of you know that I am not the kind of mom that sits at home (or sits at all for that matter) so to have orders to do this for the next three months seems like a death sentence right now. Plus, taking care of the kids and taking care of the house is what I do. It is part of who I am. So, today I have a Pity Party for myself, and tomorrow we start to figure out how in the world we are going to do this.
Please keep the baby and our family in your prayers. This will be a difficult summer for us. But at the same time, praise God that he has blessed with a knowledgeable and proactive medical staff, that the baby is healthy and happy and that we have amazing friends that have graciously had the kids for the last two days.

Hi Chery! We were talking about you today at Jazzercise and Lori e-mailed your blog to me so I could get the news straight from the source. I am so sorry you are on bed rest - I can't even imagine how that must be. I'd love to bring a meal over sometime. E-mail me and let's put a date together. In the meantime, you are in my thoughts and prayers.
Susan Dobbs
