Giddy-Up Li'l Cowgirl, It's Time to Ride

I am so excited to share some wonderful news regarding Mia's therapy.  A while back I was referred to a facility in Carmel called Ther-A-Play.  Ther-A-Play is  unique outpatient rehabilitation clinic for children with special needs in which they use horses are part of the therapy.  After much research and various discussions with Mia's current in-home physical therapist, I have been convinced this type of therapy would really help Mia.  The motion of riding on a horse requires core strength and it is the only therapy that can simulate a human walking gait.  But after a battle with First Steps and a high-cost per session outside of insurance, I felt like this was an opportunity that we just couldn't afford.  But of course, that didn't stop me (ha-ha!).

I continued talking with Ther-A-Play, contacting our insurance representative (of whom is like talking to a very boring white wall), and researching the benefits of Hippotherapy.  Mia has been on the waiting list this entire time and we received a call about a month ago wanting to know what we wanted to do.  They put me in touch with their financial guy, who was a huge blessing in this process.  He has taken a lot of time with me explaining insurance lingo and giving me paperwork on their subsidy program.  Part of the application for the subsidy program required an essay of our current financial status, and why we think we need help.  Did I mention each weekly session is $180!  I knew just who to call and rang Jess, my sister-in-law, that night who graciously helped me draft a brief summary/plea for help.

I got a call yesterday that we have been accepted into the subsidy program!  And our out-of-pocket cost is actually something we can afford.  After a six month battle with "the man," I am proud to say that Mia will be starting Hippotherapy!  Thank you to all of our family and friends that have supported my efforts, encouraged me through the process, and prayed for little Mia.
