World's Youngest Comb-Over
I have to start off this blog laughing. As soon as this incident occurred last night, my husband remarked "I know what the next entry in your blog will be." He couldn't be more right, although last night I was not laughing.
Every Monday evening we have small group. There are two other couples in our small group. Between the three couples we have five girls ranging in age from 2 - 5. The girls generally just play and have fun while we do our Bible study. There have been a few mild incidents, but mostly toddler issues of the not-sharing sorts. We've never worried too much about it. And the adults are only one room away. (Can you feel my foreshadowing...).
Last night, as everyone was getting ready to go, I thought Avery looked a little different, but I couldn't figure it out at first. She had been playing hairdresser so her hair had a million barrettes, clips and ponytails in it. But after everyone was gone, Chris went to take her hair down and out came a big chunk of hair. Thinking that it seemed odd, he brought it over to me. I immediately knew that a chunk that size would have evoked loud screaming if it had been pulled out. I knew right away it had been cut!
After further investigation, we realized Avery had cut a huge chunk out of the front of her hair (leaving less than an inch of hair there) and then several chunks on the side. I cried. Seriously, I cried when I saw it. She had picked up all the pieces of hair and put them in the trash. I couldn't believe how much it was. She looked ridiculous. And to top if off, I had already schedule our family picture for this Saturday. Ahh!
So, after preschool today, we headed over to Cookie Cutter to see if they had any solutions. I knew there was nothing we could do about the "bald" effect in the front, but I was hoping they could help with the chops on the sides. We ended up cutting about 5-6 inches off her length and then layering it around her face. We then parted her hair over the front. Yep, the world's youngest comb-over. It looks better than it did, but I can't get over how different she looks with no hair there. It kind of looks like she has really short bangs or something. I am hoping to use the comb-over method or a large headband for the pictures. Here are some before and after shots.
BEFORE - Notice the short hair in the front and the short pieces on the sides. This picture does not do the damage justice. Chris likened the front to a "Dumb and Dumber" hair style.

AFTER - We love comb-overs!

My mom promised me this would be funny someday. I told her it would be funny in three years when her "bangs" have grown back out. Needless to say, there will be adult supervision at our future small group meetings. On top of the hair cut, Mia busted her lip when she fell off a chair she was standing on. Mia's glass were also broke, but I was able to patch them up this morning. Do we sound like a mess or what? Not a great night, but I suppose even as I am writing this, I am starting to chuckle a bit at the craziness of it all.
