Blizzard
We are still trying to dig ourselves out from under the huge amount of snow we received earlier this week. Last I heard it was over 12" in our area. The best part about it was that we really had no where to go, and so we played. Chris was able to stay home and work. It was so much fun having everyone home, enjoying the whole day together. It was a nice change of pace - no therapists (they all canceled), no doctors (until later), no preschool, no aerobics.... nothing but snow, coffee, Dora and snow.
Avery and Chris did brave the snow. Avery was so excited. She got all bundled up and they headed out into the backyard where the snow had drifted closer to two feet. Avery kept falling down, but she just laughed. They played on the swing set for awhile. Nothing like going down the slide into a huge pile of snow.
Watching Avery playing in the snow reminded me of snow days as a child. Each snow day, Kevin would get all excited to go out and play in the snow. He had huge dreams of building a snow fortress or city. I would pretend to be excited and we would head out. I always got too cold too fast and I ended up being more of a dream-smasher as I trudged back inside, leaving Kevin in the cold with his snow fantasies. I remember one time he was so mad he started a vicious snow ball fight... ahh, the good old days. We would always come in and warm ourselves by the this little kerosene heater we used in the winter. Nothing warms your soul like a fire hazard.
Anyway, our snow bliss ended up being more of a disaster for little Mia's lungs. Her asthma issues came back with a vengeance and after coughing and vomiting for several nights, she became dehydrated. She is on every asthma medicine out there at this point. We now spend about 45 minutes every four hours giving her breathing treatments through a nebulizer. We are just hoping this is not something more serious. Since Mia is a silent aspirator (she allows food/liquids to go into her lungs without showing any signs like coughing, gagging, etc.) we always worry that something went down the wrong pipe and is causing some inflammation. Mia continues to be amazingly happy, even when she is coughing so hard that she empties her entire tummy. God granted her with more patience than a baby should have to have. On a brighter note, Mia is getting new glasses. Her prescription got a little stronger, but her current glasses were so scratched up, that we needed to replace them. We got the flexible frames this time, so hopefully that will help with the wear and tear. Avery is very excited because she is getting her eyes examined this next week. She has her eye on some Dora glasses... I tried to tell her glasses are not really that fun...we will see.Oh yeah, and Valentine's Day was thrown into the mix this week. Since we were home-bound due to the snow, neither Chris or I got out to get each other a little something. Although better late than never. Chris went to the Artist Vineyard today and picked me up a "unique" bottle of wine. I can't wait to enjoy it
We did make a heart pizza on Valentine's Day, along with some heart cookies. Avery enjoyed her treats. Turns out she is a big fan of the conversation hearts. Avery made a valentine for Chris too. We still have to make valentine's for her class party next Wednesday, but we are taking one step at time.
